About

Scott Joshua Dere has been using a camera since he was 6 years old, beginning his career using film cameras.  At just 13 years old, Scott landed his first photography job as an assistant for a local studio. For the next 17 years, Scott worked with several local Professional Photography Studios and found many different techniques of lighting and visualizing subjects along the way. During this time Scott attended college at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and received a BFA in the Fine Arts of Photography 2001. Since that time Scott Dere opened a Long Island, NY based studio called Art Photographers. The studio is responsible for hundreds of weddings, parties and functions including fine art portraiture and more, across the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut areas each year.

In 2015 Scott achieved a Master of Photography Medal from the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and in 2018 a Master Craftsmen award followed.

In the last 20 years, Scott Joshua Dere has had a wide range of clients including celebrities like Phil Collins, Ellen Barkin, and others as well as photographing alongside some of the industry’s best Photographers.  Scott has worked side by side capturing weddings with Canon Explorer of Light, Clay Blackmore, as well as Nikon Visionary, Doug Gordon. In the wilderness, Scott would travel in between events and often photograph alongside Canon Explorer of Light, Charles Glatzer and National Geographic’s Paul Nicklen in the Great Bear Rainforest and the Arctic. Scott has spent 10 years working with predators in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, using the areas as his winter playgrounds.

Locally, Scott has given Ted Talks in New York on conservation and has recently published a book on photographing Birds of Prey. Despite owning a successful Long Island Professional Photo studio, Scott worked for Canon in Lake Success, NY early in his career and still uses their best equipment to date. However, Scott has field tested Lenses for Sigma and written for their blog and now collaborates and consults with Olympus on OMD products.
